Keyshia Ortiz-Benitez Obituary, HARTFORD, CONN. — Keyshia M. Ortiz-Benitez, a 30-year-old Hartford woman, has died after being struck by a vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Ledyard Street. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the collision that claimed her life.
According to the Hartford Police Department, officers responded to the area of Ledyard Street, south of Wawarme Avenue, after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash. When first responders arrived, they found Ortiz-Benitez suffering from life-threatening injuries in the roadway.
Emergency medical personnel provided treatment at the scene before transporting Ortiz-Benitez to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts by medical teams, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as Keyshia M. Ortiz-Benitez, born on November 16, 1994, and a resident of Hartford. Authorities said the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene shortly after striking her.
Investigators believe the driver was operating an unknown make and model vehicle that traveled southbound after the collision. No description of the vehicle or the driver has been released as detectives continue working to identify those involved.
The Hartford Police Department Crime Scene Division responded to the location and is handling the investigation. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and locate the driver responsible for leaving the scene.
