Jaiden Pacheco and Geovani Aponte Jr. Obituary, CHAPLIN, CONNECTICUT — Two young men have died following a devastating head-on collision late Friday night on Route 6 in Chaplin, according to Connecticut State Police. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Jaiden Pacheco of Windham and 19-year-old Geovani Aponte Jr. of Willimantic.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 11:53 p.m. on Friday, June 26, along Willimantic Road (Route 6) in Chaplin. Authorities said the collision involved a Hyundai Elantra and a Dodge Journey, with both vehicles sustaining extensive damage after the impact.
State police reported that four people were inside the Hyundai Elantra when emergency crews arrived at the scene. All four occupants were found unresponsive following the crash.
Jaiden Pacheco and Geovani Aponte Jr. suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the Hyundai were seriously injured and transported to Hartford Hospital for medical treatment. Their identities and current conditions have not been released.
The driver of the Dodge Journey suffered minor injuries and was taken to Windham Hospital for evaluation and care.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.) responded to the crash site as investigators worked to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly collision. Authorities have not released details regarding possible contributing factors, including speed, impairment, distraction, or roadway conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing. Connecticut State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may help investigators to contact State Police Troop D.
Jaiden Pacheco and Geovani Aponte Jr. will be remembered by their families, friends, and loved ones as the community mourns the loss of two young lives taken too soon. May they rest in peace.
