Yukahn Riffell Obituary, TROY, Ohio — A 21-year-old Ansonia man has died after his Chevrolet Impala crashed into the rear of a disabled tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 in Miami County Saturday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities identified the victim as Yukahn Riffell, 21, of Ansonia. Officials said Riffell was pronounced dead at the scene following the serious collision in a construction zone near Troy.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 8:20 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, just north of State Route 41, according to investigators with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by Derek Blakely, 43, of Bethel, had pulled onto the right shoulder outside the travel lanes due to a mechanical issue while traveling through the construction area.
Authorities said Riffell was driving northbound in a Chevrolet Impala when the vehicle left its lane of travel, entered the closed section of the construction zone, and struck the rear of the disabled semi-truck. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Riffell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Derek Blakely, was not injured in the crash. No additional injuries were reported following the collision. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Troy Police Department, Troy Fire and EMS, and Dick Lumpkin’s Towing.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not yet determined why the Chevrolet Impala left its lane, and investigators have not released whether factors such as speed, impairment, distraction, or fatigue contributed to the collision.
Yukahn Riffell’s death has left family, friends, and the Ansonia community mourning the loss of a young life. As authorities continue their investigation, condolences are extended to those affected by this tragic loss. May he rest in peace.
