Darin Labiche Obituary, IOWA, LA. — Darin Labiche, a 53-year-old man from Lake Charles, was killed Thursday morning after a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 101 near Iowa, according to Louisiana State Police.
The fatal crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on La. 101 near Jeff Davis Road in Calcasieu Parish. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
Authorities said Labiche was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima northbound on La. 101 when the vehicle left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle entered a roadside ditch, struck a culvert, and overturned before coming to a final stop.
Emergency crews arrived at the crash site, but Labiche suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later determined that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
As part of the standard procedure for fatal crash investigations, troopers collected a toxicology sample from Labiche and submitted it for laboratory testing. Results from the analysis have not yet been released.
Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities are reviewing all possible contributing factors, including roadway conditions, speed, mechanical issues, impairment, and potential medical factors.
