Suhib Yousef Obituary, Shooting Investigation: Suhib Yousef, 15-Year-Old Liberty High School Student, Killed in Baton Rouge Homicide

Suhib Yousef Obituary, BATON ROUGE, La. — Authorities in Baton Rouge are investigating the death of 15-year-old Suhib Yousef, a Liberty High School student whose body was discovered early Thursday morning in the Southdowns neighborhood in what investigators have now confirmed as a homicide.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office, Yousef was found in the roadway near Poplar Street and Lee Drive around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday after officers responded to reports of a possible pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Initial information from the scene suggested the teenager may have been involved in a traffic incident. However, investigators later determined that Yousef died from a gunshot wound to the neck, and the case has since been officially classified as a homicide by the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Police say surveillance footage from the area captured Yousef’s final moments before his death. The video reportedly shows the teenager taking out trash late Wednesday night when an SUV pulled up beside him. Authorities said Yousef briefly approached the driver’s side window and interacted with the occupants of the vehicle.

Investigators further stated that moments after the interaction, Yousef was dragged more than 250 yards down Poplar Street before his body was discovered by responding officers. Officials have not released additional details about what occurred inside the vehicle or the exact circumstances leading to the shooting.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System released a statement expressing condolences to the student’s family and the Liberty High School community, confirming that grief counseling services will be made available on campus. Counselors are expected to be present beginning next week to support students, staff, and faculty affected by the tragedy.

As of Friday, no suspects have been identified, and no motive has been publicly disclosed. The Baton Rouge Police Department continues to review surveillance footage, collect evidence, and interview potential witnesses as the active homicide investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers as the search for those responsible continues.
